Intro

Bangkok Airways markets itself as Asia’s Boutique Airline, promising an elevated flying experience.

After flying with them from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, I can confidently say they delivered on that promise.

From complimentary lounge access to full meal service on even the shortest flights, Bangkok Airways sets itself apart from budget carriers in the region.

The Lounge

Unlike most airlines that reserve lounge access for business class or elite frequent flyers, Bangkok Airways extends this premium perk to all passengers, regardless of fare class.

The lounge is located at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Concourse A, Level 2, and is open from 04:30 to 19:30.

Upon arrival, friendly staff verify your eligibility, and you’re welcomed into a comfortable space with free Wi-Fi, an assortment of snacks and beverages, and plenty of seating.

The Thai dessert Khao Tom Mudโ€”steamed bananas in sticky rice wrapped in a banana leafโ€”is a must-try.

The airline ensures only the highest-quality grains are used, sourced from Northeast Thailand during mid-season harvests.

While the lounge is spacious, it does get busy during peak hours.

Inflight

Once onboard, the first thing that stands out is the generous legroomโ€”a welcome change from the cramped seats often found on low-cost airlines in Thailand.

The seats are older-style but still comfortable, with good recline and a retro charm.

The cabin is clean and well maintained, and even on flights as short as 45 minutes, Bangkok Airways provides a hot meal service!

Shortly after takeoff, meal service begins promptly, starting with special meals for those who pre-ordered.

Bangkok Airways offers over 20 special meal options, something you’d typically only see on full-service international carriers like Aegean Airlines.

The meal tray included a main rice course with chicken, a dessert, and real cutlery in economy class.

No meal choice was available, but given that most airlines on this route don’t even offer a snack, a hot meal was a luxurious touch.

After the meal, the crew offered coffee, tea, and orange juice, moving efficiently through the cabin.

Even on Bangkokโ€“Koh Samui flights, which are only 45 minutes long, passengers receive a full hot meal.

Conclusion

A Boutique Airline That Exceeds Expectations.

Bangkok Airways delivers on its boutique airline promise, providing an experience far exceeding many legacy airlines.

The airline offers complimentary lounge access for all passengers, generous legroom, a full hot meal on short-haul flights, and an attentive, professional crew.

After experiencing multiple budget airlines in Southeast Asia, the difference is clear: Bangkok Airways prioritises passenger comfort and service.

Bangkok Airways remains the best short-haul airline in the region for those looking for a premium flying experience without breaking the bank.
