Intro
On December 1, 2023, I flew on Porter Airlines’ inaugural Fort Lauderdale to Toronto service.
A chance encounter with one of the airline’s PR representatives at check-in gave me insight into their excitement for the launch and landed me an upgrade to their premium Porter Reserve!
Porter Airlines treated passengers to tea, coffee, cookies, and even a raffle drawโa warm and festive start to the journey.
The atmosphere was celebratory, and the hospitality set a positive tone for the journey.
Porter Reserve
Porter Reserve passengers are treated to priority boarding and spacious seating at the front of the cabin.
The experience is elevated further with premium meals, an excellent selection of snacks, and various beveragesโall included in the fare.
Shortly after takeoff, the attentive crew distributed inflight menus and wellness shots before taking drink orders. The menu featured three meal options:
Savoury breakfast oats with fresh fruits
A cheese and fruit tray
Croissants filled with smoked salmon
I opted for the oats, which were fresh, flavorful, and so good.
The presentation was thoughtful and fun to unbox, featuring a bright fruit bowl and a freshly baked scone with jam.
I chose the oats, and they were a highlightโfresh, delicious, and satisfying, elevating the economy class experience to a rare culinary delight.
Adding a clever touch, Porter Reserve provides passengers with a cardboard mobile phone holder, a practical addition that enhances your inflight viewing experience
Sustainability
Drinks are served in reusable glassware, lending an air of sophistication to beer and wine service.
The snack service included a variety of items, such as nuts, banana bread, cookies, and fava beans, paired with drinks.
Compostable paper cups and biodegradable agave-fiber cutlery further demonstrate the airline’s eco-conscious approach.
Porter Brands
Brands such as Jackson-Triggs wine, Balzac’s Coffee Roasters and other thoughtful partnerships support local producers and give passengers a genuine taste of Canada.
Economy Class
Even in Porter Classic, the main cabin, passengers are offered complimentary refreshments, including beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages, all served in real glassware.
For flights over 2.5 hours on their E195-E2 jets, travellers can purchase fresh meal options (such as though served in Porter Reserve)
Conclusion
Porter Airlines delivered a remarkable flying experience from start to finish, blending attentive service, sustainable practices, and thoughtful touches.
It is uncommon to encounter this level of service on short-haul flights today, as more airlines are reducing their service offerings.
Passengers can expect a refined, comfortable, and distinctly Canadian journey.
