Starting on 1 September, Lufthansa will be expanding its Economy Class hot meal service on short- and medium-haul flights by introducing five new pre-order hot meals, as well as offering a broader pre-select menu in Business Class on long-haul flights heading back to Germany.
Hot meals can only be obtained by placing a pre-order, the order having to be made between four weeks and 24 hours before departure, on continental routes where the flight time is two hours or more.
The five choices are beef roulade with potato dumplings, chicken teriyaki, tortellini in tomato sauce together with zucchini, “Die Echte” currywurst from Dรถnninghaus, and a cheeseburger from HANS IM GLรCK.

The beef roulade, the chicken teriyaki and the tortellini come with a dessert, while the currywurst is served in the traditional way with a roll.
Onboard Delights was launched in February 2023 and offered a choice of fresh meals, snacks, and drinks which passengers could buy in Economy Class on short- and medium-haul flights, with certain items available for pre-order.

Passengers in Business Class on long-haul flights have been able to pre-select their main course on those leaving Frankfurt and Munich since August 2023.
Starting on 1 September, the service will be available on most long-haul flights returning to Germany as well, with passengers now having six main courses to choose from rather than the three previously available, and the selection made within the same four-week-to-24-hour period.
Olaf Mauthe, who is head of hospitality catering management at Lufthansa, stated: “By introducing these hot meals we are extending the Onboard Delights programme so as to give our passengers on longer continental flights another choice. If they pre-order then they can be sure that their chosen meal will be available on board โ thus ensuring a more relaxed and predictable journey.”
