Intro

VietJet Air, a popular budget airline from Vietnam, is well known for offering affordable flights across Southeast Asia.

However, onboard meals can be a bit different depending on your fare class and whether you opt for pre-ordering.

VietJet offers three economy-class fare levels:

  1. Eco โ€“ No meals included.
  2. Deluxe โ€“ Meals are included on routes between Vietnam and Australia/Kazakhstan and vice versa.
  3. SkyBoss โ€“ Premium service that provides complimentary meals.

If your ticket doesn’t include meals, you can pre-order meals or purchase from the Sky Cafe menu onboard.

Pre Order Meals

For those flying with VietJet, pre-ordering your meal ensures your choice, saves money, and guarantees you’re served first.

Meals can be pre-ordered up to 24 hours before your flight, offering a wide range of regional and international dishes.

Popular options include chicken green curry with jasmine rice, vegetarian fried rice, and chicken lasagna.

These options are available for domestic and international flights (e.g., Bangkok to Phuket).

Hereโ€™s a peek at what else you can choose from:

Three rectangular metal trays filled with delicious biryani dishes are displayed with greenery. Each dish is priced at 7.06 AUD: ChickenBriyani, VegBriyan, and BenjaChickenW, reminiscent of an Air Asia Santan review showcasing their tempting in-flight meals.
Three meal options in foil containers are displayed: chicken teriyaki, green curry chicken, and vegetarian rice. Each comes with a side of rice, vegetables, and a small water bottle for 7.06 AUDโ€”a delightful selection worthy of an Air Asia food review.

Bangkok to Phuket

On my recent Bangkok to Phuket flight, I tried the chicken green curry with jasmine rice, which was served in a basic foil box.

An airplane tray table with a recycled paper bag, a foil-wrapped meal, and a bottle of mineral water.

While the presentation was simpleโ€”nothing compared to the glossy menu photos, the meal was flavourful, and the portion size was generous for a short flight of just over an hour.

A tray of airplane food with white rice and a serving of vegetables in sauce, placed on an airplane tray table.

The rice was cooked perfectly, and the curry had a mild spice, making it manageable for most passengers.

A brown paper bag labeled "Sky Cafรฉ" holds a wooden spoon, fork, and a wrapped utensil with "Weber Air" branding, positioned on an airplane tray with a seat visible in the background.

The eco-friendly wooden cutlery was a nice touch, especially for a budget carrier. Itโ€™s great to see a commitment to sustainability as part of the inflight service.

The Sky Cafe Menu

If you donโ€™t pre-order, VietJet’s Sky Cafe menu has meals, snacks, and beverages for purchase onboard.

The hot meal options include chicken teriyaki, vegetarian fried rice, and spicy chicken basil.

Meals include a main dish and a drink, are priced at around 160 THB (6 USD). For airline food, it’s great value for money.

The Sky Cafe also offers lighter bites like sandwiches, snacks, and drinks, so thereโ€™s something to suit everyone.
