Important Limitations

Flight Duration Requirements

  • European flights: Must be over 80 minutes for regular meals, 60+ minutes for breakfast
  • Very short flights don’t offer meal service

Route Restrictions

Not all destinations offer pre-order services, particularly at smaller airports with limited catering options.

Cabin Class Restrictions

  • European pre-order meals: Only available for SAS Go passengers (SAS Plus/Business get complimentary meals)
  • Long-haul premium upgrades: Available for all passengers

Troubleshooting Common Issues

“Pre-order option not showing”

  • Check your flight duration (must meet minimum time requirements)
  • Verify you’re booking within the deadline
  • Some routes may not offer pre-order service

“Meal didn’t arrive”

  • Notify the cabin crew immediately
  • Ask about alternative options available onboard
  • Keep the booking confirmation for follow-up

Tips for Success

Before Booking

  • Check if your route qualifies for pre-order service
  • Have payment details ready

After Booking

  • Save the confirmation email with meal details
  • Screenshot your booking confirmation
  • Set a reminder to verify the booking 24 hours before departure

Backup Plans

  • Bring suitable snacks, especially for children
  • Pack extra food for picky eaters, as pre-ordered meals aren’t guaranteed to appeal
  • Remember that coffee, tea, and water are always complimentary

The Bottom Line

SAS pre-order works well for European flights where you want to guarantee a meal at a reasonable price, and the premium upgrades on long-haul flights offer genuine value for the enhanced dining experience.

The 2025 pricing is reasonable – €4-11 for European meals and €27 for premium long-haul upgrades compared to buying food at the airport. The booking system is straightforward, and the meal photos help you know what to expect.

Key benefits include guaranteed Availability, up to 15% savings vs onboard prices, and the convenience of having your meal sorted before you fly. Just remember to order within the 18-hour deadline and pack backup snacks for picky eaters.
