Review: Norwegian Long Haul Economy Class

A look at norwegian air inflight meals aboard the boeing 787 aircraft. We look at economy and premium economy meals.

This review is from 2013 if you’re after the latest you can read it here. Norwegian does not provide ‘free’ meals for passengers in economy class; their premium cabin includes complimentary meals. Before the flight, I ensure that I’ve pre-ordered the ”Nice and Tasty” menu for economy class passengers which includes: One light meal and a hot meal ( with wine, beer or water during the meal service). The meals must be pre-ordered online at least 72 hours before departure. If you don’t pre-order, you can always order snacks during the flight via your inflight entertainment system.

ECONOMY CLASS MEALS

Cabin crew serve passengers who have pre-ordered their meals online first, those who didn’t just have to wait a little bit longer for the inflight service. The economy class meal is served promptly after take-off and consists of a standard meal tray with a salad, drink and main meal.

The first meal is beef with potato mash served with broccoli, and while it doesn’t look very appealing, the taste was ok.

PREMIUM ECONOMY CLASS

I then moved to the premium economy class cabin to sample meals there. The meal for the second service is a light breakfast which consists of yoghurt, fruit salad, and a pain au chocolate. It’s better than the prior meal, about the same quantity of food offered, it’s presented in better packaging and overall looks better.

PRE-ORDER MEAL COSTS

I paid an extra €49 to include a checked-in bag, seat selection and two meals. If you purchase the bag alone it will cost you €33, and seat selection is an additional €33, it makes sense to purchase the bundle with everything included. The meals in economy class could be better and meals offered in premium economy are similar to the economy standard. I paid for my ticket and Norwegian allowed me to film and experience both cabin classes on my flight.
