Review: Singapore Airlines Business Class Medium Haul

Inflight meal review of singapore airlines book the cook service, we take a flight from Hong Kong to Singapore to experience this delicious service.

On a recent flight from Hong Kong to Singapore, I flew with Singapore Airlines in business-class to try the book the cook service. This service allows you to pre-order your main meal for your upcoming flight. It takes the hassle out of making a decision inflight, and you can select precisely what you want to eat.

I’ve since flown Singapore Airlines again and you can read those reviews here and here.

From Hong Kong, the airline offered 12 book the cook dishes, I selected the Grilled Fillet of Beef with Shallot-Tarragon sauce, French beans, Roasted pumpkin and Mashed potatoes. The menu inflight offered four meal choices: a Veal fillet, Steamed cod, Seared chicken and Fried pork. After take-off, I selected the ‘Silver Kris Sling’ to drink, the beverage menu is extensive with wines offered from France, Australia, Germany and Port from Portugal.

THE FIRST COURSE

The first course is served, it’s a Nicoise salad with marinated seared prawns, it’s delicious. Not long after finishing my salad, the cabin crew member confirmed my pre-order meal choice.

BOOK THE COOK PRE ORDER

The meal was delivered promptly and oozed restaurant-quality, it tastes great, however, it’s served lukewarm.

I still ate part of the dish as I didn’t want to cause a fuss, however, the crew member knew something wasn’t right and asked for feedback. I explained it was a little cold and without hesitating, she rectified the situation. I was provided with a piping hot dish of fried pork with Chinese vegetables, and I enjoyed this meal.

DESSERT

For dessert, there were options of raspberry or chocolate Haagen Dazs ice cream, and without being asked what flavour I preferred, the crew member placed one of each on my meal tray. This wasn’t served from the typical Haagen Dazs packaging, it was plated up and garnished by the cabin crew.

The service was fantastic, as was the service recovery, there’s a reason why Singapore Airlines is one of the best in the sky.
