I recently flew Delta Airlines; the first flight was from Seattle to Los Angeles and the second from New York to Los Angeles. I decided to book first-class from Seattle to LAX and chose premium economy from New York to Los Angeles. Passengers donโ€™t typically receive free meals when travelling in the USA; however, Delta has been trialling some free meal services on transcontinental routes across the US. Most other US-based airlines will offer some small snacks in economy class and perhaps refreshments, but you still need to purchase additional items from their onboard menus.

SEATTLE TO LAX

I was looking forward to this experience as Iโ€™d never flown with Delta before and didnโ€™t know what to expect when flying domestic first class. The staff were friendly, and the cabin was comfortable, but what I loved most was the fact that the meal-offering ex Seattle was all sourced from the Pike Place Market in Seattle.

The tray featured clam chowder, a Cajun-spiced salmon with fettuccine, a bread roll and a macaroon. The meal was excellent, delicious and well thought out, I loved the design of the meal tray, although it’s plastic, it looks a lot nicer than your average inflight meal tray.

NEW YORK TO LAX

I flew from New York to Los Angeles in comfort+ (premium economy) to experience the inflight offering. Thereโ€™s slightly more legroom, a free meal and the cabin crew provided an amenity kit. After take off the cabin crew deliver a drink and snack service followed by the main meal offering.

The collaboration with Luvo offers a range of healthy freshly-made products including options of a cheese plate from Murrayโ€™s Cheese store in New York City, a Luvo Harissa Roasted Veggie Wrap, a Greek Meze Plate, a Beef Pastrami Sandwich and a Sesame Noodle Salad.I enjoyed my wrap and was thankful to receive a free meal on this 5hr+ flight; the airline is rolling out free meals across several destinations throughout the USA.

As a reference, I flew with Alaska Airlines in their โ€˜premium classโ€™ cabin, which offers complimentary cocktails, beer, wine and enhance snacks. However, I must say the enhanced snack offering is a little disappointing when compared to the Delta offering.Delta recently launched a new economy class service you can read all about thatย here.
